The Sooners have concluded their summer camps and are now focused fully on closing out strong on the 2026 class. And as such we take a look at the best from Oklahoma football’s four days of camp. Yesterday we looked at the offensive side of the ball and we now look at the defenders who shined in camp. It was a camp with good balance from the secondary to the big boys up front.

11. Liufau Loumoli – 2028 – LB – Sammamish (Wash.) Eastside Catholic

Thoughts: Without question the guy on this list that we got to see the list of but just his basic movement skills made him one to watch. Loumoli was only working out at Oklahoma football camp for a short amount of time but he was outstanding in the quick work.

10. Mikhail McCreary – 2027 – S – San Antonio Johnson

Cornerback Mikhail McCreary works out at the Brent Venables’ Football Camp June 12, 2005.

Thoughts: McCreary was a ton of fun to watch working at safety but showing off the ability to play cornerback. He’s got great length and could fit well when he comes down into the box. In short, he’s a high-end safety prospect.

9. Colton McComb – 2027 – LB – Edmond (Okla.) Memorial

Thoughts: McComb was a guy we knew we liked on tape but seeing him in person gave a very different perspective. He showed off big-time speed and athletic ability. Blend that with a solid frame and you may have one of the better linebackers to come out of OKPreps in recent memory. An off the beaten path thing that stood out was how well McComb seemed to take to instruction and quickly apply what Nate Dreiling was working on him with.

8. Jay Schell – 2028 – LB – Rabun Gap (Ga.) Rabun Gap-Nacoochee

Thoughts: Speaking of great frames, Schell showed up to camp with great length and moved around really well. He was also a guy that seemed to pick up quite a bit through camp. As he learns and continues to fill out his frame Schell has a ton of potential to grow into.

7. Troy Mailo – 2027 – EDGE – Denver Mullen

Thoughts: One of the few guys on this list that we didn’t know coming in. Mailo wasted no time grabbing our attention with his movement skills in drills. He was, at the same time, so smooth and explosive. When you watched him sink his hips and change directions you would have thought you were watching a linebacker. As he gets better with his hands and better understands attacking blockers, he’ll be very dangerous.

6. Brayden Bonik – 2027 – LB – Missouri City (Texas) Ridge Point

Thoughts: Bonik was injured during camp and though it was nothing serious it did cause him to miss some action. But what we did see was an athletic linebacker who closes well and, even in a camp setting, showed some ability to be physical. He’s very promising and has a chance to be a real focal point of Oklahoma’s efforts at linebacker in 2027.

5. Dhillon McGee – 2027 – CB – Red Oak, Texas

Thoughts: McGee is one who didn’t get a lot of notoriety during his visit. And a large part of that wasn’t we weren’t quite sure who he was. But once it was verified and we reviewed what we’d seen again, we knew he was a corner worthy of notoriety. He’s a very smooth and natural corner with easy coverage skills.

4. Montre Jackson – 2027 – CB – Garland (Texas) Lakeview Centennial

Thoughts: Every time we see Jackson he looks like an absolute star. He’s got great size but he’s also a guy who clearly uses camps to improve his craft. He has been around Oklahoma football over and over again in the last few years and the Sooners are real contenders. If they can pull it off it would be a huge win.

3. Jaiden Fields – 2027 – S – Hutto, Texas

Jaiden Fields, a 2027 safety from Hutto, Texas, picked up on offer from Oklahoma following his camp performance June 5, 2025.

Thoughts: Fields was another guy who showed up and from minute one you had to know what you were looking at. What was most surprising at the camp was that he has spent little time at defensive back as his highlight reel is almost exclusively at receiver. So while there are fair questions about how he will be within the physical aspects of the game, his coverage skills were as good as any player we saw in June.

2. Kellan Hall – 2028 – DL – Louisville (Ky.) Christian Academy

Thoughts: I hate to quote myself but the best way I can describe Hall is “he looks twitchy even when he’s moving slow”. I still don’t know how that’s possible but man this guy was impressive at Oklahoma’s camp. Hall is a legit 6-foot-4 and 260-pounds and as he refines his natural talent he’s going to be an absolute problem.

1. Jalen Brewster – 2027 – DL – Cedar Hill, Texas

Thoughts: Hall and Brewster were really 1A and 1B on the day so you could argue it either way and wouldn’t really be wrong. That being said, we leaned Brewster because I continue to be impressed with his plan when he attacks a blocker. This isn’t a guy that just runs at an offensive lineman and hopes his talent wins out. He has a plan and when that doesn’t work he has a counter ready. He’s a special taleant at defensive tackle.
