In this edition of #notcommitted, Ben Garrett and Zach Berry of the Ole Miss Spirit/On3 (OMSpirit.com) bemoan the reticence of some in the national media to include Ole Miss in their way-too-early 2024 College Football Playoff projections. Plus, they dig into all the latest transfer rumors, from the arrival date of wide receiver Deion Smith, to the Rebels’ portal pursuit of Alabama transfer corner and former five-star prospect Dezz Ricks.

Ricks could check out one or both of Oregon and Ole Miss following his current visit to Texas A&M. He cancelled a planned trip to LSU. The Aggies are the favorite. LSU was considered the runner-up in his high school recruitment.

Ricks appeared in two (Kentucky and Chattanooga) of Alabama’s 14 games last season.

He saw the field as a defensive reserve in back-to-back games, but didn’t record any stats in what was his true freshman college season.

Ricks reclassified from 2024 to the 2023 class but was still ranked as a five-star recruit by the On3 Industry Rankings. Ricks was considered the second-best cornerback in his class and the nation’s No. 18 overall player, despite moving up a cycle. He ultimately chose the Crimson Tide over the Tigers, Florida and Florida State.

On3 Scouting Report: Ricks is a tall corner with coverage polish who has room to continue adding strength and mass to a thinner frame. He reminds us of (former LSU defensive back and second-round NFL Draft pick) Greedy Williams as a high school prospect due to his coverage skills and body type.
