Ole Miss quickly reached out to Mount St. Mary’s combo guard De’Shayne Montgomery when he entered the portal last month. Now the 6-foot-4, 190 pound prospect has announced a Top 4 of Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Georgia and Southern Cal.

The MAAC Rookie of the Year averaged 13.2 points this season. In his post grad year, he helped lead Hargrave Military Academy (Va.) to a 44-2 record. There, he averaged 16.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.8 steals per game while shooting 56 percent from the field and 38 percent from three-point range.

De’Shayne Montgomery is originally from the Sunshine State.

As a senior year at Somerset Prep North Lauderdale, averaged 19.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 3.4 steals per game. This year at The Mount, he had a chance to play against Ole Miss and Chris Beard. He led the Mountaineers in scoring against the Rebel, dropping 22 points. He was 9-for-15 from the field while also chipping in four steals and three rebounds.

Montgomery scored in double figures 18 times in 2023-2024 for Mount St. Mary’s. He had 25 or more points five times.

Ole Miss will certainly be overhauling the roster in Chris Beard‘s second season.

It is unclear who will return in 2024-2025. But adding a player like Montgomery would be a good start. Down the stretch, the Rebels struggled to get buckets. The former Mount St. Mary’s guard is a bucket getter. Beard would love nothing more than to add someone of his caliber.
