It is good to be Quinshon Judkins these days as the postseason accolades continue rolling in for the Ole Miss running back.

On Monday the Associated Press named Judkins the Southeastern Conference Newcomer of the Year. He edged out LSU linebacker Harold Perkins, Jr.

Judkins paced the Ole Miss offense and earned the regular season SEC rushing title with 1,474 yards and 16 touchdowns.

As a true freshman, Judkins made an immediate impact as the Rebels were working through a quarterback battle between Jaxson Dart and Luke Altmyer the first few weeks of the season.

Dart eventually won the starting job and Judkins continued to thrive in Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin’s system.

The AP honor is the second honor Judkins has received in the past week. Last Tuesday Judkins was named the 2022 C Spire Conerly Trophy winner, naming him the top college football player in Mississippi.

Judkins served as part of the one-two punch Ole Miss offered along with Zach Evans.

Evans transferred from TCU and was expected to be the starting running back, which he was. But Judkins started playing better and better and earned more snaps as the season progressed.

An injury put Evans on the shelf for a game but also limited him for the middle portion of the regular season.

The duo led Ole Miss to the top SEC rushing attack for the second time in the last three seasons. Evans finished fifth in the SEC with 899 rushing yards in the regular season.

The AP honors did not stop there for Judkins who found his way onto the All-SEC list.

Judkins was a unanimous selection as the All-SEC First Team running back. He was the only Ole Miss player to make the 2022 All-SEC list.

It is the second straight season Ole Miss has landed at least one player on the All-SEC List. Defensive end Sam Williams, safety AJ Finley and quarterback Matt Corral earned First and Second Team honors in 2021.

Georgia Tight End Brock Bowers was the 2021 Newcomer of the Year.

The Rebels return to the field to cap its 2022 campaign later this month in the TaxAct Texas Bowl against Texas Tech on Dec. 28.
