After a week of speculating and months of waiting the 2024 college football season is set for Ole Miss in what could potentially be considered one of the biggest seasons in program’s history.

National championships have been won before but for the modern era discussion next fall is a very important 12-game slate for Lane Kiffin, who will be in his fifth season as head coach, and Ole Miss as it looks to be one of the inaugural teams when the College Football Playoffs change from four teams to a 12-team format.

Ole Miss would have been in it this season if the format was for 2023 but, alas, the Rebels must fight through another Southeastern Conference gauntlet to try and notch another piece of history.

They knew the opponents since this summer but now the Rebels know the exact order and when they will play after the SEC Network’s schedule reveal on Wednesday.

Following the Ole Miss alumni calendar’s spoiling of the football schedule the SEC Network confirmed all of the dates that were listed, including keeping the Egg Bowl in its traditional slot of the last game of the regular season for the Rebels and Mississippi State.

One game listed on the calendar was confirmed on Monday when Eli Manning announced Ole Miss will travel to Baton Rouge and play LSU on October 12.

Other road trips include Winston-Salem to take on Wake Forest on September 14 for the first away game of the season. The SEC road trips begin in early October with South Carolina and the aforementioned Tigers in back-to-back weeks. Trips to Arkansas and Florida in November round out the away games.

Kiffin will potentially have grumblings for a second time in three years as Ole Miss must play in Gainesville the Saturday before playing the Egg Bowl, which could be on a Thursday or Saturday.

The Egg Bowl status is currently in limbo, according to Ole Miss athletics director Keith Carter who spoke with The Ole Miss Spirit on Tuesday.

Home SEC games for the Rebels start on the final weekend of September with Kentucky. Ole Miss gets SEC newcomer Oklahoma in October and will host the Sooners after the first of two bye weeks scheduled. The Georgia Bulldogs follow a trip to Arkansas but the Saturday before the second bye week before ending the season against the Gators and Mississippi State.

Every team will have two bye weeks this season and the Rebels occur on October 19 after LSU and before playing Oklahoma and November 16 after playing Georgia and before going to Florida.

This will be the first season in 33 years that the SEC does not have divisions and instead will have a 1-16 standings. Ole Miss finished the 2023 season second in the Western Division behind Alabama.
