The No. 9 Oregon Ducks (8-1, 5-1 Big Ten) gutted out an 18-16 win over the No. 20 Iowa Hawkeyes (6-3, 4-2 Big Ten) on Saturday nigh in Iowa City. They did it without five of their top players.

Wide receiver Dakorien Moore, tight end Kenyon Sadiq, right tackle Alex Harkey and inside linebacker Devon Jackson were all unavailable against the Hawkeyes.

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning updated their status following the Ducks’ 11th straight road win since joining the Big Ten.

“Ultimately, it’s kind of a weird week. We actually didn’t have a lot of contact. Dakorien kind of tweaked his knee on a non-contact play in spiders. Think he’s going to be okay, but was obviously out tonight,” Lanning told reporters. “Kenyon’s really been, kind of had lingering injuries since the Rutgers game, where he makes a big catch in the end zone, and just we want to give him the ability to try to recover from that. Because we’ve he’s tried to practice, and it hasn’t been what it needed to be.”

A’lique Terry and the Law Firm leaned on their depth along the offensive line in Harkey’s absence, as one of their tone-setters in the run game wasn’t able to go.

“Harkey rolled his ankle, but he was really close to being able to potentially help us in this game. And kind of same with D Jacks (Devon Jackson),” Lanning added.

Players like linebacker Jerry Mixon took on larger roles for the Ducks in a game that became a slugfest. Oregon’s special teams were also major asset with kicker Atticus Sappington knocking through all three of his field goals, including a 39-yard game winner.

“So all those guys being out, you see a bunch of guys step up. And you need guys to step up in big moments like this. Faced some adversity early in the game with the interception and guys just putting each other on each other’s back. Defense coming up with a big takeaway.

“We said special teams had to be special tonight. We weren’t going to let 21 (Kaden Wetjen) beat us in special teams. I thought our guys announced any job of covering. And can’t say enough good things about Atticus Sappington, you want to talk about ice in your veins in a moment like that. Several big kicks. Ultimately, really proud of the way these guys played and attacked.”

The Ducks’s wide receiver room was already without Moore and took another hit when veteran Gary Bryant Jr. went down with what appeared to be an ankle injury early in the game. He would not return to the game.

“I don’t have an update on Gary right now,” Lanning said.

Ultimately Oregon’s depth played a pivotal role the Ducks’ stealing a win from the 20th-ranked Hawkeyes on the road in Kinnick Stadium.
