It had been six years since the Oregon men’s basketball team lost in Seattle. That streak came to an end Thursday night. Final score: Washington 78, Oregon 67.

Jacob Young (14 points, 5-of-16 FG) led an Oregon comeback down the stretch, but it was too little too late.

The Ducks were hopeless against the Huskies’ hungry zone defense, while Terrell Brown Jr. (25 points, 7-of-16), Emmitt Matthews Jr. (25, 9-of-13), and Nate Roberts (18 points, 8-of-10) terrorized Oregon on the other end.

Will Richardson continued his slump, scoring zero points and committing three turnovers in the first half. He did not attempt a shot in the second half, totaling seven rebounds and three assists in 32 minutes.

Brown averages 21.5 points per game, good for first in the Pac-12. He scored UW’s first eight and was the home team’s lone scorer for the first nine minutes. He even stayed in the game after a second foul with 10:30 to go in the first half.

Oregon jumped out to a small lead, but it was the home team who took a 33-23 halftime lead behind a 19-6 run. They bolstered it with a 13-2 run to start the second half.

Quincy Guerrier (16 pts, 5-of-12) and De’Vion Harmon (17 pts, 6-of-13) gave the best efforts of the night for the Ducks, but this game was all about Washington. The Huskies shot better (46 percent to UO’s 38 percent), rebounded better (41-38), and scored 40 points in the paint to Oregon’s 32.

Oregon now must win the Pac-12 Tournament to get to the Big Dance. They are currently tied with Colorado for that crucial fourth place (and first-round bye), but the Buffs hold the tiebreaker. Oregon has a Quadrant-1 trip to Wazzu coming up this Saturday. The Buffs play at Utah.

Notes

— Oregon’s last loss in Seattle came in 2015. Since then, Oregon had gone 12-1 against their Northern rivals entering tonight.

— Oregon demolished Washington 84-56 in Eugene earlier this year. The Ducks led 48-13 at halftime and Brown Jr. shot 3-of-16 from the field.

— Richardson hasn’t made a basket in over a week, going 0-of-8 against USC and 0-of-3 tonight.
