As Oregon flips the page from the 2023 cycle to ’24, fans need to know that the coaches are already looking ahead to the more distant future – starting with the 2025 class.

The first name I’m going to list is a familiar one: 2025 Murietta (Calif.) quarterback Akili Smith Jr. recently added an offer from the Ducks. Smith — a 6-foot-5, 200-pound Oregon legacy — has parlayed an impressive sophomore season and success at camps into offers from Oregon, Miami, Michigan and Arizona.

If Oregon is going to seriously recruit Smith Jr., it’s hard to imagine a world where he doesn’t end up following his father’s steps and suiting up for the Ducks. But for now, the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine lists Arizona as the overwhelming favorite.

The second prospect, a bigger name nationally, is highly rated wide receiver Dakorien Moore. from Duncanville (Texas). The On3 Consensus ranks Moore 13th nationally, and he holds offers from just about everyone – including Alabama, Ohio State, Texas and Oregon.

Moore took a Junior Day visit to Oregon on Jan. 28, when he familiarized himself with Oregon and Junior Adams. But the early leader in the RPM is Texas.

More optimistically, Oregon is tabbed as the current leader for wideout/tight end Bear Tenney from Gilbert (Ariz.). Tenney holds offers from Oregon, Georgia, Ohio State, Utah and more.

Tenney has visited Eugene twice, both in 2022. At 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, the sophomore, will no doubt become one of most sought-after players in the country.

Moving over to the defensive side of the ball, Oregon has been targeting San Diego (Calif.) top-rated hybrid linebacker Madden Faraimo out of JSerra Catholic. Faraimo, already a composite 4-star and the No. 23 player in the country according to the On3 Consensus, has offers from Penn State, USC, Washington, Oregon and Utah.

A spring or summer visit to Eugene is in the works for Faraimo, who will be looking to begin his in-person relationship with the Oregon staff.

Already having visited is 4-star Texas cornerback Deyjhon Pettaway, who caught the Ducks’ game against Washington this past season. Pettaway, from Paetow High in Katy, has offers from Texas A&M, LSU, Ole Miss and Oregon.

Pettaway really liked his trip to Eugene, and he seems highly likely to return.
