Welcome to the first edition of a new series, the Recruiting Notebook.

The notebook will feature updates and tidbits on Oregon targets. I’ve been posting something similar on ScoopDuck forums and Twitter, but this will have more new content.

I’ll try to get an edition out each Monday or Friday. But like Justin and The Juice, if there’s not enough to make a quality update, I won’t force it.

Latest with Van Buren

Michael Van Buren is a top QB target in 2024 for Oregon. However, there’s one question; his size.

I’m told he was measured at 5-foot-10¾ last October – not ideal measurables. Despite that, Van Buren is still being courted by a handful of top schools.

The two standing out to him right now are Penn State and Oregon.

Penn State obviously has the advantage of being closer to home, but Van Buren is not the only big-name target for the Nittany Lions. Both schools would take a commitment from Van Buren right now, despite having other options.

Another school on the radar for Van Buren is Tennessee.

Oregon the team to beat for Mothudi

As of right now, Kamar Mothudi is torn between Oregon and Washington.

Oregon is also prioritizing fellow 2024 linebackers Dylan Williams and Justin Williams. However, with Oregon’s lack of depth at the position, the Ducks can make a strong case to all three prospects.

Dan Lanning is personally involved in Mothudi’s recruitment. And right now, I believe Oregon is in the lead, with Washington close behind.

Since he’s from Los Angeles, USC would be a big offer for Mothudi. But the Trojans have yet to pull the trigger.

SEC school stands out for Obidegwu

Another St. Frances Academy player – and a teammate of Michael Van Buren – is 2024 cornerback Ify Obidegwu. Obidegwu will join Van Buren on on a visit to the home state Maryland Terrapins this weekend.

The team I’ve heard the most in connection with Obidegwu is Tennessee. Oregon has a lot of ground to make up, and the Ducks need to get him back on campus.

Demetrice Martin has proven to be a great recruiter, so we’ll see if he can give Oregon life in this recruitment.

Oregon battling for Justin Williams

The Ducks dominated the early buzz for 2024 linebacker Justin Williams following his Eugene visit for the Oregon-UCLA game. A commitment was supposedly in the wind, but none was announced.

I still feel that Oregon is in a good spot to land Williams, but in-state programs Texas & Texas A&M aren’t going to make it easy. He’s again taking an unofficial visit to Alabama this weekend.
