On Monday Oregon added a big commitment. Normally, this early in the cycle I wouldn’t get overly excited about any one prospect, but this one is a bit different.

Now of course a lot can change between now and December, 2024. A lot. That is like 10 years in recruiting. But you have to feel pretty good about newest Oregon commit, quarterback Akili Smith Jr. sticking with the Ducks given his early commitment.

Of course Smith is a legacy commit for the Ducks. His dad is one of the most popular alums of the football program.

Smith is the No. 88 ranked player in the On3 Industry Rankings currently. To my surprise, he’s the third highest ranked commit for the Ducks in the early 2025 class. Oregon has four total commits in the class so far.

Both receiver commits, Adrian Wilson and Dallas Wilson, rank higher than Smith in the On3 Industry Rankings. Offensive line commit Sandman Thompson is the No. 417 ranked player in the On3 Industry Rankings.

The Ducks class is ranked No. 3 nationally currently with those 4 commits. Oregon is only ranked behind Alabama and Georgia currently in the On3 team rankings.
