It’s a big day for Dana Altman and Oregon Men’s Basketball.

Former Stanford forward Brandon Angel has committed to the Oregon Ducks. He announced his decision over social media on Monday evening.

“One last ride,” Angel wrote in an instagram post.

The senior averaged 13 points and 4.7 rebounds per game and dished out 50 assists during the 2023-2024 season. The 6-foot-8, 240-pound forward was also very effective from beyond the arc, shooting at a 44.7% clip from three-point-range.

Angel spent the last four seasons in Palo Alto after signing with the Cardinal out of San Diego (Calif.) Torrey Pines High School in the class of 2020.

Adding a capable three-point shooter has been a top priority for head coach Dana Altman as the Ducks shot just 33.8% as a team from distance last year. Angel shot 56.7% (136/240) from the floor.

While at Stanford he became one of the program’s better free-throw shooters, and ranks 11th all-time in free throws, knocking down 80.8% of his shots from the charity stripe. Oregon struggled shooting free throws the last couple of seasons, so acquiring a player that can convert from the line adds to his value.

Angel is Oregon’s first major offseason addition from the transfer portal and he joins Orlando (Fla.) West Oaks Academy three-star power forward Ibrahima Traore, who signed with the Ducks in the 2024 recruiting class.

Aside from Angel the Ducks’ 2024 roster could also feature rising sophomore forwards Kwame Evans Jr. and Mookie Cook, who were both former five-star recruits. Evans showed a lot of promise in year one, while Cook battled injuries all year and only played in five games.

Oregon has seen a bit of roster churn this offseason with guards Kario Oquendo and Brennan Rigsby entering the transfer portal following an NCAA Tournament run that saw the Ducks defeat the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Oquendo has since committed to the SMU Mustangs and will spend the 2024-2025 season in the ACC.

Angel’s commitment is another big offseason story, as former assistant coach Tony Stubblefield recently returned to Eugene to rejoin Dana Altman’s staff after spending the last three seasons as the head coach at DePaul.
