Penn State lost another 2026 recruit on Wednesday in four-star linebacker Terry Wiggins.

A native of Coatesville, Pa., Wiggins took four official visits following the coaching change, traveling to schools like Colorado, North Carolina and West Virginia. However, like so many other former Nittany Lion commits, he’s decided to join former PSU head coach James Franklin at Virginia Tech.

“I think his film stacks up well,” said Rivals Scouting Director Charles Power when Wiggins was promoted to a four-star prospect. “He has a big frame and good size. He’s one of the taller guys among those top-ranked linebackers, and he has solid length. I think he’s got the capacity to put on more weight as well.

“We also like the versatility he showed on his junior film. He’s athletic and can run sideline to sideline. He can rush the passer and looks comfortable in space. So, we just thought, based on the film and his size, he stacked up really well within that group. There’s a pretty large group of linebackers who have 90 ratings and he’s one of the ascending prospects in that group. There are prospects going in both directions in that group, but we view him as an ascending player and certainly a four-star.”

Listed at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, Wiggins was previously one of three four-star linebackers committed to Penn State. However, all three have now committed elsewhere. Virginia prospect Mathieu Lamah will join Wiggins in Blacksburg, while North Carolina native Elijah Littlejohn switched his commitment to Georgia back on Nov. 23.

“He’s definitely a different type of athlete that we’ve had over the years,” said Coatesville head coach Matt Ortega. “He’s probably the tallest we’ve ever had here and the most athletic for that size, for that length. I honestly think he’s athletic enough to play corner in high school. That’s how athletic and fast he is.

“So once he started using those strengths, we were able to do a few different things, like play him in the nickel spot at times. That’s very rare for us in terms of our outside linebackers. It’s a different type of player, but we were able to utilize his skill set, tweak some things and do different things defensively all because of his athleticism. The versatility that he has is special.”

Wiggins is currently ranked No. 173 nationally in the Industry Rankings. He’s the ninth-ranked linebacker and No. 5 overall in Pennsylvania.
