How to watch Penn State basketball host Indiana

Exactly one week ago, Penn State basketball endured one of its worst offensive performances of the season. Scoring a campaign-low 49 points in a lopsided loss at Nebraska, the Nittany Lions did so without the services of their leading scorer, Kanye Clary.

Suspended for the contest and officially announced as dismissed from the program two days later, Clary’s absence set the table for a gauntlet of a final six games of the regular season.

This Saturday afternoon, the Nittany Lions stand as a program in starkly different terms. Following a 90-89 stunning upset of No. 12 Illinois on Wednesday night at Rec Hall, they did so without Clary. And, according to Illini head coach Brad Underwood, Penn State was a better team for it, both on film and in person.

“They’ve won games without him. I thought they were better without him,” said Underwood. “I mean, the ball moved, the ball is in Ace’s hands. And I don’t know anything about anything that’s going on with him. So I’m not commenting on him.

“But, their role definement is great. They’re adding (D’Marco) Dunn and putting him in a place where he gets shot and their roles were very defined. I’m not in their locker room, I’m not around, but that’s a very connected basketball team.”

Using Torvik’s adjusted offensive efficiency rating, the performance was the Nittany Lions’ fourth-best of the entire season. Baldwin finished with his second double-double of the season, notching 12 assists, and Nick Kern (22 points), Zach Hicks (13), Qudus Wahab (13) and Jameel Brown (11) all finished in double-figures scoring.

Their best? By a wide margin, another game without Clary on the court, an 85-71 win at Indiana three weeks ago.

Now set to take on the Hoosiers in a rematch at the Bryce Jordan Center, the Nittany Lions will get another opportunity to ut their new-look reality to the test.
