Penn State basketball’s offseason is officially under way. Following a second-round Big Ten Tournament loss to Indiana last Thursday, the Nittany Lions reconvened for year-end assessments on Monday.

And, coinciding with the opening of the NCAA transfer portal on Monday, so too came entries.

Confirmed by Blue White Illustrated, true freshman guard Bragi Guðmundsson and sophomore center Favour Aire have entered the portal. Also, dismissed point guard Kanye Clary officially entered his name into the transfer portal on Monday.

Clary is the most productive of the entries, finishing his Penn State career with 55 games played, including 20 starts as a sophomore in 2023-24. He was averaging a team-high 16.7 points per game when, following the team’s Feb. 17 trip to Nebraska, he was dismissed.

“Kanye is no longer with the team. Coach’s decision. We’re going to keep moving forward on the guys we got, the task at hand,” said Penn State head coach Mike Rhoades. “It came to a point where we’re at that I made the decision as the head coach to move on. I’ll leave it at that.”

Immediately following the announcement, Penn State went on earn its second top 15 upset of the season, knocking off No. 12 Illinois at Rec Hall on Feb. 21. The Nittany Lions would go on to win four of their final seven games without Clary in the lineup.

Two others enter

Among the two other entries, Aire is the only to play in his first season with the Nittany Lions. A transfer from Miami, Aire missed the first two months of the season while recuperating from a camp injury to his hand.

Upon getting into the lineup, Aire appeared behind Qudus Wahab and Demetrius Lilley as a depth piece at center. In that role, he went on to appear in 11 games, scoring five points with 11 rebounds over 54 minutes. His most substantial action came in games at Northwestern and against Michigan State in February as Lilley missed time with injury.

Guðmundsson, meanwhile, saw 12 minutes of action over seven games, scoring six total points.
