Penn State was always expected to pick up a few commitments coming out of its spring game, but you won’t find many people who predicted this one this time last week. Donovan Harbour, a 6-foot-4, 330-pound interior offensive lineman, announced his commitment Tuesday afternoon after visiting State College for the first time this past weekend.

A four-star prospect, Harbour earned an offer from offensive line coach Phil Trautwein a year ago in April 2022. Trautwein and members of PSU’s recruiting staff had been steadily speaking with Catholic Memorial star, although Saturday’s trip was his first opportunity to have extended, one-on-one conversations.

“It was amazing. I loved the atmosphere,” Harbour said. “I loved how they were having fun while competing with each other and also making each other better.”

Since picking up his first offer in Dec. 2021, Harbour has added more than 20 Power Five scholarship offers. The Waukesha, Wisc., native narrowed his list to seven schools back on Dec. 31. In addition to Penn State, Harbour included Florida, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Harbour is ranked No. 178 nationally. He’s considered the 10th-ranked interior offensive lineman and the No. 2 player in Wisconsin for the Class of 2024.

Until this weekend, Penn State held just one offensive line commitment in its Class of 2024 from Erie, Pa., native Cooper Cousins. On Saturday evening, they added Wyomissing prospect Caleb Brewer. The 6-foot-4, 285-pound Pennsylvania native could play either offense or defense. That makes Harbour just the second true offensive lineman in this class.

It’s believed that Trautwein would like to add a handful of additional linemen, as Penn State currently has eight offensive linemen on its current roster who are entering their fourth year or higher. With Cousins expected to play center and Harbour at guard, offensive tackle will become an even bigger priority moving forward. Players like Kevin Heywood, Garrett Sexton, Grant Brix, Guerby Lambert, Liam Andrews and Paki Finau all rank highly at tackle. Sexton will announce his commitment on May 1. He’s believed to be leaning toward Penn State ahead of this weekend’s visit to Oklahoma.

The Nittany Lions are now up to 10 commitments total in the Class of 2024. They also sit at No. 10 overall in the On3 Industry Team Rankings.
