Penn State basketball signee Jameel Brown has carved out a place in On3’s updated top-150 rankings.

The Philly guard enters the rankings at No. 138. He is the No. 136 player nationally according to the On3 Consensus, which compiles input from all of the major recruiting services.

Brown headlines a five-man recruiting class that has inspired plenty of optimism about the program moving forward under Micah Shrewsberry.

He reads screens well, which is an important trait in Shrewsberry’s ball-screen-heavy system. But his calling card is his ability to shoot from beyond the arc.

“When he enters the gym he’s ready to shoot,” Adam Fisher, who led the way on his recruitment, said.

Brown’s shooting ability commands respect, which in turn opens up driving lanes for him to make plays at the rim.

Overall, he’s one of the more exciting prospects the Nittany Lions have inked in recent memory, and a player Shrewsberry and his staff will count on to play plenty of minutes early.

“He is a basketball player who is going to come in right away and make an impact on this team,” Fisher said.

Penn State basketball lands one of four top-150 PA talents

Brown is one of four players from the Keystone State who cracked On3’s latest top-150 rankings.

The most notable of which is his teammate at Westtown Dereck Lively, a five-star who comes in as the No. 3 overall prospect.

Lively, who grew up in nearby Bellefonte, gave Penn State some consideration, taking an unofficial visit last summer before choosing Duke.

Daniel Skillings, out of Philly powerhouse Roman Catholic, comes in at No. 48 on the updated list.

Skillings, a shooting guard, held a Penn State offer, but the Nittany Lions were never a real contender. He is signed to play at Cincinnati.

Pocono Mountain West standout Christian Fermin is the third-ranked player in the state of Pennsylvania according to On3 analysts.

There was a mutual interest between Penn State and Fermin, with the 6-foot-10 center taking an official visit to Happy Valley shortly before announcing his commitment.

The choice, ultimately, was VCU.

Brown comes in as the No. 4 player in the state at No. 138 overall.

Interestingly, the other three PA players who cracked the top-150 all chose to play their college basketball out of state.

Pittsburgh and Temple both currently have zero commits in the 2022 classes, and Villanova did not land any PA prospects in this cycle.
