We start with an update on former Lions defender Johnny Dixon. The early portion of Wednesday’s NFL Network coverage of the National team practice at the Senior Bowl showed the cornerback go down in pain in the back of the end zone following a one-on-one drill. The broadcast never updated his status. But, a report from NFL.com did late Wednesday night. He suffered a glute injury, according to the outlet.

“Although Dixon’s injury is not considered serious, requiring only stretching and icing, he was set to finish up his team interviews on Wednesday night and leave Mobile, ending his week,” the report says.

The annual all-star game will be played Saturday in Alabama. Dixon is joined at it by tight end Theo Johnson, defensive end Adisa Isaac, and cornerback Kalen King. Johnson has drawn the most praise among the former Penn State players so far. Isaac is a close second. King, however, has found himself on the other end of the spectrum as the only cornerback with junior eligibility at the event.

“Kalen King had an up-and-down day on Tuesday, and Wednesday’s practice brought more issues for the Penn State CB, who’d been mocked in Round 1 at times earlier in the cycle,” Pro Football Network writes in its Day 2 stock up/stock down piece.

“He lost 1-on-1 reps against Javon Baker and Luke McCaffrey without much resistance, and his lack of elite size-adjusted athleticism showed up at times when trailing vertically. In a strong CB class, King could start to get drowned out.”

Quote of the day

“My visit was with Coach Shrewsberry, but Coach (Mike) Rhoades has reoffered me. The campus was really good. You can really feel the vibe there. I went for a white-out game, so it was a great atmosphere for the game. In talking with Coach Rhoades, I think they’re going to be a program to watch out for.”
