The transfer portal has only been open for a few hours, but Penn State has already extended multiple scholarship offers to potential targets. One trend that’s become clear is that James Franklin and his staff are still intrigued with former recruits that got away. That became clear once again Monday evening with Penn State’s decision to offer from Texas A&M defensive end Elijah Jeudy.

A former four-star prospect from Northeast High School in Philadelphia, Penn State pursued Jeudy hard, hosting him for a half dozen visits. Schools like Alabama, Florida and Georgia were also serious players, but Jeudy went on to commit to A&M on Jan. 2, 2021 during the Adidas All-American Bowl.

Jeudy ended up redshirting in 2021 and didn’t really contribute this past season, totaling just 12 snaps and no official statistics. A&M brought in eight defensive linemen in last year’s class.

Despite the limited film, there’s no shortage of interest from other schools. Since entering the portal Monday morning, Jeudy has claimed offers from Boston College, Colorado, Nebraska, Syracuse and Virginia Tech. He also announced a few hours ago that he’ll take an official visit to Nebraska this upcoming weekend, Dec. 9-11.

Just today, Penn State extended new scholarship offers to former Kent State wide receiver Dante Cephas and former Alabama defensive back Khyree Jackson. Former Oregon wide receiver Dont’e Thornton, who was once committed to Penn State, is also expected to be among the staff’s top targets in the transfer portal.
