Penn State may have wrapped up its season a week ago, but there were still a few college teams playing this past weekend, as conference championships were decided Friday and Saturday. With both USC and TCU losing yesterday, there’s some drama now going into today’s College Football Playoff announcement.

The loss for USC is especially notable for Penn State, as Ohio State is now expected to be in the playoff, freeing up a spot in the Rose Bowl for the Nittany Lions. That matchup will be against Utah, who of course beat the Trojans Friday night.

The Utes have already had an impact on the Lions in one poll, as the Associated Press moved the Utes up five spots to No. 7 overall. USC also only dropped down four spots, which means Penn State actually dropped a spot in this week’s AP Top 25 to No. 9 overall.

The Coaches Poll, who’s had Penn State higher throughout most of November, kept the Lions at No. 7 overall. Utah is actually No. 10 in that poll, with USC just behind Penn State at No. 8.

One thing both polls agree on is that TCU should be in the College Football Playoff, which is about to be announced. The AP has the Horned Frogs at No. 3, with Ohio State at No. 4, while the Coaches Poll flipped the two teams.
