Penn State has picked up two wide receivers from the NCAA transfer portal so far this week. However, it also lost one to college football’s player movement mechanism on Wednesday afternoon.

Jaden Dottin is looking for a new college home. The former four-star recruit in the Class of 2020 from Cambridge, Mass, caught just two passes for 14 yards over three seasons in State College. He was unlikely to move way up the depth chart this fall.

“Thank You Penn State and everyone involved with me for everything!” Dottin wrote on Twitter.

“I am forever grateful! I am now officially in the transfer portal with 3 years of eligibility.”

Dottin’s pair of catches with the Lions came in only the second appearance of his career when Penn State beat Ohio in 2022. He also appeared in a 2020 contest.

More portal movement at receiver is possible between now and the start of the 2023 season. The Lions must also still find a receivers coach after head coach James Franklin fired third-year assistant Taylor Stubblefield back on Sunday.

“I would like to thank Taylor for his efforts during his time with Penn State but feel it is in our program’s best interest to make a change at this time. I wish him and his family nothing but the best in the future,” Franklin said.

Penn State landed former Kent State receiver Dante Cephas out of the portal back on Sunday. It then picked up a pledge from one-time Florida State pass catcher Malik McClain on Wednesday. The former is not on campus for spring practice. The latter will be.

Head coach James Franklin’s program has made a total of five portal pickups ahead of the 2023 season. It also landed former North Carolina and All-ACC corner Storm Duck and specialists Riley Thompson and Alex Felkins. The former was a freshman All-American after one season at Florida Atlantic. The latter was a two-time All-Ivy League pick at Columbia.

In reverse, Penn State defensive tackle Fatorma Mulbah left the program this month. He has since landed at West Virginia. Linebacker Jamari Buddin continues to seek a new college home, as does running back Keyvone Lee and corner Marquis Wilson. Former quarterback Christian Veilleux is at Pitt. And, one Lion did enter the portal but opted to withdraw from it and stay at Penn State: Defensive end Davon Townley Jr.

Players have the end of the day Wednesday to enter the transfer portal before the first window to do so closes. The second one will not open until May 1. It runs through May 15.
