Penn State news, notes, and updates for June 13 include Deyvid Palepale’s top three, plus a transfer portal nugget and more.

It’s time to dive into Tuesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with recruiting. Three-star Class of 2024 recruit and Landisville, Pa., Hempfield defensive lineman Deyvid Palepale has a top three. It consists of the Nittany Lions, USC, and Michigan. Penn State hosted the senior-to-be for an official visit on June 2 and the Wolverines had him on campus for a 48-hour all-expenses-paid trip last weekend. The Trojans do not currently have him on the books for an official visit, but one could be scheduled down the road.

“Last time I was up there was for the White Out game,” Palepale told BWI in April. “Of all the times I’ve been up there for camps and games, I’ve never really been able to do a full tour of their facilities. So, going up on this most recent visit, I got to do everything. I saw their academic halls, their facilities, their dorms and different things like that. We also spent a lot of time with Coach [Deion] Barnes and [Alan Zemaitis], which was really good.

“I also got to spend a lot of time around their players, specifically Dvon Ellies. I thought he was really cool, especially with both of us sharing the same heritage and being Samoan. That kind of gave me a sense of comfort talking to him and seeing similar people of my heritage there.”

In other news, Penn State coach James Franklin and other members of the Lions’ staff made a stop in Foxborough, Mass., on Monday to check out the New England Patriots’ mandatory minicamp. Two former Nittany Lions are on the AFC East team’s roster: Quarterback Trace McSorley and tight end Mike Gesicki. One-time Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien is also the team’s current offensive coordinator.

Quote of the day

“I loved it. It was a great experience. I got to see more of the school than I saw before. It just gave me more time with people to see how everybody is, how the players are, how the coaches interact, how the recruits that they’re bringing in are. I just wanted to see what the culture is like.

“Everything we did was important. I had a meeting with the head coach. I guess the meeting with the head coach and bonding with some of the current players was the most impactful.”
