Penn State wide receiver Cristian Driver has entered the NCAA’s transfer portal, On3 has confirmed. The son of former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver, Cristian committed to the Nittany Lions in July 2021 and was one of 25 players to sign with head coach James Franklin and his staff in the 2022 recruiting class.

Driver started his collegiate career on defense playing cornerback, playing in four games during the 2022 season. In the offseason, he switched to offense to play wide receiver, a position he preferred to play coming out of high school.

“For me, I just feel more confident at that position. I feel more comfortable playing that position,” Driver told Blue White Illustrated back in the spring. “Of course, my dad played that position. Coach Franklin coached my dad at that position, so I think I’ve been able to and I can pick up great knowledge from both of them.”

According to Pro Football Focus, Driver totaled 27 snaps at receiver this season and another 22 snaps on special teams. He had one catch against Delaware for eight yards.

Coming out of high school, Driver held a four-star rating in the On3 Industry Rankings, coming in at No. 297 nationally. Driver finished as a four-star prospect at 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN. On3 rated him a three-star prospect with an 88 overall rating.

Driver played at Liberty Christian High School in Texas. He earned more than 40 total scholarship offers coming out of high school, with most schools liking his potential best on defense. Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Wisconsin were the three schools he also seriously considered leading up to his commitment. He finished his senior season with 56 tackles and six pass breakups. As a junior, he broke up five passes and totaled 81 tackles.

Track Penn State transfer portal activity

The NCAA transfer portal database is private, but Blue-White Illustrated and the On3 Network have you covered from start to finish when it comes to tracking Penn State’s player movement.

Our well-established network of reporters and contacts across college athletics keeps you up to speed in several ways. We have articles written about players as they enter and exit the transfer portal or find their new destination, a dedicated transfer portal Twitter account, and the On3 Transfer Portal wire.

The transfer portal wire provides a real-time feed of player activity, including basic player profile information, transfer portal ranking, and original On3 Consensus recruiting ranking, as well as NIL valuation (name, image, and likeness).

While the transfer portal officially opened for business today, Dec. 4, for undergraduate players, grad transfers, FCS and Div. II players, as well as those who went through a coaching change, have been available to contact. This specific transfer portal window runs through Jan. 2, 2024.

It is important to note that a player does not need to make his decision by that Jan. 2 deadline. They just have to declare their intent to enter the portal by then. When they pick their next school or decide to return to their current one after that is up to them. A second transfer portal window will run April 15-30.
