The Penn State offense added another offensive lineman to the Class of 2024 on Tuesday, and it’s not the one you’d expect. But, in a quick turn of events, a four-star guard from Wisconsin, Donovan Harbour, officially committed to Penn State on Tuesday.

To recap how things went down, film analyst and host Thomas Frank Carr discusses Harbour’s path to Penn State with recruiting insider Ryan Snyder.

Penn State loading up on linemen in 2024

In four days, the Nittany Lions landed two potential offensive line prospects in Harbour and three-star jumbo athlete Caleb Brewer. Harbour signifies a trend that Snyder emphasized plenty of times this offseason.

“I’ve hit on this how many times? After Jimmy Christ entered the portal, they now have eight offensive linemen on the roster currently who are entering their fourth year. Obviously, I don’t expect all those guys to be gone after next year, but quite a few of them are going to be gone. And this has to be a year where they retool, certainly, a year where I think five offensive linemen is a must offense,” Snyder explains.

For his fit, Harbour plays tackle and guard in high school but will kick inside for the next step in his career.

“I think it goes along with what James [Franklin] always says about recruiting versatility. Although, I will say that Donovan Harbor, at six-four, 330, certainly feels like a right guard in my eyes.”

Film Analysis leads to investigation

To T-Frank, this is an uncharacteristic player for Penn State to target, considering what Trautwein has done recently.

“I’ll say it begins and ends with the size for Donovan Harbor, and that’s going to be part of the conversation here because he does not to me, he does not look like the guys with the size that Penn State has been recruiting recently because his I kind of think that he’s overweight.

I think he needs to drop 40 pounds, and he might have that athleticism we’re looking for.,” T-Frank says.

So why did the Nittany Lions sign Harbour? After some digging, T-Frank thinks he knows why.

And this is where I went into investigation mode, Ryan, because of these red flags. So I went back to his sophomore film, where I see the movement skills. This is where he was a top player in the On300. He did take a dip in the in the recent updated rankings. And I think that’s why. He’s just playing too big.
