Watch Penn State Head Coach James Franklin's Postgame Press Conference Following Loss To Ohio State

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Penn State came into Saturday’s matchup against Ohio State with hopes of ending a six-game losing streak to the Buckeyes. Despite a strong performance from its defense, James Franklin and his team couldn’t get the job done, converting just 1 of 16 attempts on third down in a 20-12 loss to the Buckeyes.

After scoring 30-plus in every game going back to last season, offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich and his unit struggled against the Buckeyes, converting just two field goals in the first half before being shut out in the second half until the final minute of the game. By then, Penn State was down 20-6 before Drew Allar found Westerville, Ohio, native Kaden Saunders for his first career touchdown with just 29 seconds left in the game. The Nittany Lions attempted to go for two but were unable to convert before ultimately not recovering the onside kick.

Highs & Lows: Penn State offense stifled by Ohio State in latest loss

Allar finished the game completing just 43 percent of his passes. He was 18 for 42, totaling 191 yards and one score. While he still hasn’t thrown an interception, Allar was also sacked four times against the Buckeyes.

While Ohio State did ultimately total 365 yards on offense, defensively, Penn State played much better before ultimately wearing down in the second half. Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. once again showed why he’s one of the best players in college football, finishing with 11 receptions for 162 yards and a score. However, aside from him, Mann Diaz’s squad largely kept Ohio State in check. Quarterback Kyle McCord threw for 286 yards and one score, while running back Miyan Williams led the Buckeyes with just 62 yards on the ground.
