Penn State news, notes, and updates for Sept. 29 include the kinds of beer that will be sold at Beaver Stadium, plus practice updates and more.

It’s time to dive into Thursday’s top tweets and headlines about past and present Nittany Lions.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with the latest on alcohol sales at Beaver Stadium. The school announced on Wednesday that they would start during Saturday’s game against Northwestern. Penn State’s Board of Trustees approved the proposal last week. Sales will end when the third quarter concludes. Purchasing stations will not be placed near the student section. And, fans will be able to buy only two drinks per transaction.

Onward State reached out to a Penn State spokesperson to see what beers will be sold, and here’s what they learned:

A Penn State Athletics spokesperson confirmed Wednesday night that Beaver Stadium will sell four different types of beer at the game on Saturday — Miller Lite, Coors Lite, Blue Moon, and Michelob Ultra.

“However, the beer selection may vary each week.”

Pricing details have still not been released.

In other news, James Franklin held his latest post-practice availability on Wednesday night. He said that it is possible that defensive tackle Coziah Izzard will make his season debut this week while guard Hunter Nourzad could also be back in action. The Penn State coach also discussed what he is looking for out of the Lions’ kickoff game. That was an area of concern following last week’s win.

“For the most part, we’d like for that ball to be at least a 4.0 [second] hang time,” Franklin said. “We’d like for the ball to be what we call the divide or wider. Between the hash and the numbers that divide between those two points to the sidelines, so we don’t have to defend the entire field.

“And you’d like it to be a yard or two deep. So, if they decide to bring it out, then we should have a chance to pin them deep or they keep it in and there’s no threat of a big return, and the ball’s at the 25-yard line. You’d like that to be as consistent as possible.”

Quote of the day

“It just keeps the energy flowing. It just keeps bringing the energy to the team, and to the to the whole stadium, just to have everybody riled up and make a play. We’re going to do that every time.

“The fact that everybody’s doing it, even the offense, the offensive line, the coaches; like we had [defensive coordinator] Manny Diaz in there on the sidelines. It’s crazy. We like what it’s doing for the whole team. So, we’re just going to keep going with it.”
