Penn State football news, notes, and updates for Aug. 12 include praise for a Nittany Lions assistant coach and more preseason camp pictures as the team entered Beaver Stadium on Thursday night

It’s time to dive into Friday’s top tweets and headlines about the Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with a scrimmage.

Penn State took its practice up the road from Holuba Hall on Thursday night. The Lions entered their 107,000-seat home venue exactly three weeks to the day away from their road opener at Purdue.

Drills were closed to the public, of course. But, we can report that the team took the famous blue busses to Beaver Stadium, just like it would for a home game.

In other news, On3 national college football reporter Matt Zenitz decided to “survey coaches to see who they view as ready and deserving of head coach consideration.”

Penn State running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider made the list.

The 45-year-old enters his fifth season on James Franklin’s staff and his 22nd overall in coaching. He added the co-offensive coordinator title this offseason but has never actually called plays at the college level. That said, we’ve seen more schools willing to ignore that fact when making a hire for their head job. Seider has talked about only moving on from the Lions if the right fit is found.

“I’m not just gonna leave here for a lateral move that I don’t think benefits me down the road,” Seider told DKPittsburgh Sports. “We’ve got a great situation. I got a head coach with stability, who got a 10-year contract. That’s rare in college football. And as an assistant coach, the most important thing you have is stability. Do I always think I’m gonna be able to get another job? Yeah. I got a good reputation, I believe in myself. But I want it to make sense.

“You don’t leave a place like Penn State just to go somewhere. We can win it all here. We’ve got the resource to win it all here. And with this new change in element (with NIL) — and we pack 107,000 in here, so we make good money — so at some point we can become a player in other aspects of it, too. So, it’s just got to make sense. If it don’t move me forward, I’m not going anywhere.”

Quote of the day

“After I pushed back the first commitment, I talked it over with my parents. We all really liked Penn State. My mama felt good that if I went to Penn State, I would be in safe hands. We have a few friends up there, so she felt like I’d be in a safe spot if I go up there. And, my dad was just excited because his favorite college team was Penn State.”
