Georgia offensive line transfer Owen Condon announced his commitment to SMU on Thursday via Twitter. “Excited for the next chapter,” Condon wrote in his tweet.

The Oklahoma City, Okla. native entered the portal two weeks ago and the Mustangs hosted him for Friday’s practice. He’ll have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Owen Condon, a 6-foot-7, 310 pound offensive lineman who’s played both guard and tackle, participated in 22 contests throughout his four years in Athens, including 14 appearances in the 2021 season. In 2020, he made his lone career start at right tackle in Georgia’s win over the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Originally from Oklahoma City (Okla.) Bishop McGuiness High School, Condon was ranked as a four-star prospect and the nation’s No. 425 overall player, the No. 29 offensive tackle and No. 5 prospect in Oklahoma in the 2018 class per the On3 Consensus.

Owen Condon bolsters offensive line room

SMU is going through spring practice right now and already has a commitment from Virginia offensive line transfer Joe Bissinger as well. Bissinger will also arrive this summer like Condon.

During spring practices, SMU’s been missing some key pieces for the group at times. Dalton Perdue and Justin Osborne have missed time, leaving the team without likely contributors. The staff is still high on the group’s development under Garin Justice.

“I think the offensive line has been spectacular for what they’ve been doing,” running backs coach Khenon Hall said this week. “They’re doing a good job protecting the quarterback, they’ve been giving us breathing room in the run game and giving us lanes to run in. Still growing, they’re still getting to learn coach Garin and his style and his system. They’re getting to learn coach Lashlee’s system. I think they’re doing an awesome job and they’re on track to be very good in the fall.”

Owen Condon joins Bissinger along with high schools signees Jacob Waller and Rhett Larson as newcomers for the 2022 season. The Mustangs lost starters like Hayden Howerton, Alan Ali and Beau Morris this offseason.
