2024 Duncanville (Tex.) three-star safety Ka’Davion Dotson-Walker committed to SMU, he announced on Sunday. The Mustangs continue to stack up talent in its recruiting class with a strong summer.

The Mustangs have been a staple in his recruitment from the beginning. Rhett Lashlee’s staff has not only been consistent, but moved the meter in a big way of late.

“The staff is all great guys and they’re from Dallas,” Dotson-Walker told On3 in June. “They understand the culture around us. They want to build up the Dallas culture. Why not, though?”

“I can see the program is going in a different direction. I’ve been going to SMU all the years of my recruitment and I’ve seen how the program really changed. Under Lashlee, the team is focused, the coaches are focused, and everyone is focused on that staff. I’ve seen that change a lot.”

Cornerbacks coach Rickey Hunley built a strong relationship with Dotson-Walker. SMU is prioritizing many of Dallas’ best to join the program, both out of high school and from the transfer portal.

“They’re building a good program at SMU. They’re building the facility,” he said. “Everything. I feel like they’re building the city up with SMU. They’re making it a Dallas program.”

Oklahoma State, LSU, TCU and Texas made his top schools he released earlier this summer.

Dotson-Walker, one of the top safety prospects in the country, captured a state title in December with the Panthers. Throughout the season, the 6-foot, 185-pounder was a moveable piece in the secondary.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, he ranks as the No. 446 overall prospect in the country, No. 42 safety in the nation and No. 75 prospect in Texas.

Dotson-Walker joins a 2024 recruiting class that has six other commitments on board already. He joins quarterback Tyler Aronson, athlete Jamyri Cauley, linebacker Zach Smith, cornerback Alexander Rodgers and offensive linemen Graham Uter and King Large.
