DALLAS — 2024 Duncanville (Tex.) safety Ka’Davion Dotson-Walker committed to SMU on Sunday in a room filled with family, friends, teammates and even future teammates.

As Dotson-Walker announced his decision, he got an assist as current SMU wide receiver Jordan Hudson, a close friend and future teammate, handed him a black “Dallas” hat with SMU’s Triple D logo on it.

The highly-touted prospect donned the hat and made it official. He’s staying home to play for Dallas’ team and has high expectations.

“I mean hometown stays down in Dallas,” Dotson-Walker told On3. “I feel like I can go ahead and change the culture of the Dallas coaches and play for my home team. Just come in and play early as one of the best in the nation. That’s what they want from me.

“Pony Up! I want to be one of the best to ever play for them.”

SMU’s staff effort pays off with Dotson-Walker

SMU’s coaching staff used numerous coaches to connect with the 6-0, 165-pound prospect. Rickey Hunley, Scott Symons, Khenon Hall, Danny Wesley and others all played a role. Dotson-Walker jumped on FaceTime right after his commitment with the SMU staff, turning the phone to the crowd as if to introduce his future coaches.

“Coach Hunley, coach Symons, coach Hall, coach D-Wes, just the whole coaching staff,” he said. “They all made sure they stayed in contact with me every day. My countless days, my hard days, my down days, every day they were in contact and made sure I was good.”

The official visit in June sealed the deal for him and his family.

“On the official visit, me and my mom felt at home,” Dotson-Walker said. “That’s when we made the decision to go.”

Former Duncanville wide receiver Roderick Daniels is already at SMU, Dotson-Walker is now committed, Five Star Plus+ EDGE Colin Simmons officially visited this summer, and 2025 four-star quarterback Keelon Russell is another top target. There are numerous Panthers the Mustangs are after and Dotson-Walker is hoping to develop a pipeline.

“We got something up our sleeve. We’re just trying to build the pipeline,” he said. “We got Roderick, we got Jordan (Hudson) already up there. We’ve all been around each other since we were little. We’re going big with it now, next level.”

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Dotson-Walker ranks as the No. 446 overall prospect in the country, No. 42 safety in the nation and No. 75 prospect in Texas.
