Kickoff time, TV coverage for SMU-Syracuse revealed

The kickoff time and TV coverage for the conference opener for the SMU Mustangs was revealed on Monday. Rhett Lashlee’s team will face the Syracuse Orange on Oct. 4 at 2:30 p.m. CT on either ACC Network or ESPN2.
SMU is coming off a 35-24 loss to TCU on Saturday, falling to 2-2 overall on the year. Without a Power Four win entering ACC play, the Mustangs have a bye to regroup.
Lashlee is confident in his group, but it is a tough pill to swallow losing to the Frogs, especially taking the lead in the 4th quarter.
“Well, it’s tough. It’s tough because you never want to lose a game that’s important,” Lashlee said Saturday. “You never want to lose a game, period, but going into an off-week. Again, we’re going to find out the makeup of this team, how we respond. That’s all life’s about. I mean, it’s all about getting knocked down. It’s who responds and gets back up. We got great opportunities to do that. We got a lot of time to think about it and work on it and kind of get over feeling sorry for ourselves and being disappointed and rally to play Syracuse at home in two weeks.
“Hopefully, I’m very confident our team will do that. I know the people in that locker room. I know the people on our staff. I have zero doubt in our unit, our team. Hopefully the SMU family will stick with us and show up and pack out Ford Stadium for Syracuse. Start of conference season.”

On the flip side of the matchup, Syracuse QB Steve Angeli will miss the rest of the 2025 season with an Achilles tear, per On3’s Pete Nakos. Angeli underwent an MRI on Sunday, revealing the extent of the injury.
Angeli was off to a strong start to the new college football season. He was completing nearly 63 percent of his passing attempts for 1,316 yards to go with 10 touchdowns and two interceptions. He led the Orange to a 3-1 record, including three-straight wins before going out with injury.
Just one play after Angeli exited the game, backup quarterback Rickie Collins threw an 18-yard touchdown to receiver Justus Ross-Simmons to give the Orange a whopping 34-14 lead over the Tigers in Death Valley. Syracuse would go on to win its ACC opener against the Tigers 34-21.
Syracuse will have to turn toward Collins as its new quarterback moving forward and will face Duke on Saturday before traveling to Dallas to face SMU.
