SMU QB Tanner Mordecai to walk on Senior Day, enter NFL Draft
SMU quarterback Tanner Mordecai will walk on Senior Day Saturday against Memphis and enter NFL Draft, he announced after practice on Tuesday. Mordecai had one year of eligibility remaining and instead plans to head to the next level.
“I’ve had a frickin’ blast,” Mordecai said.
A back-to-back semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien Award, Mordecai ranks in the top-15 nationally for passing touchdowns (8th, 29), points responsible for per game (10th, 18.6), points responsible for (14th, 186) and total offense (12th, 318.3).

In 2022, Mordecai enters his final regular season game 239-of-376 for 3,078 yards, 29 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 10 games. He was injured against Cincinnati and missed SMU’s win over Tulsa this year.
In 2021, Tanner Mordecai started all 12 games for the Mustangs, his first year as a starter at the college level after transferring in from Oklahoma.
