Washington State transfer guard Jefferson Koulibaly commits to SMU

Washington State transfer guard Jefferson Koulibaly committed to SMU on Sunday, he announced on Instagram. The Quebec native medically redshirted in 2020-21 then battled injuries this season before leaving the Cougars in February. 

Koulibaly played in 16 games, averaging 2.6 points, .5 assists and .9 rebounds per game in 8.2 minutes per game in 2021-22. The 6-3 guard scored a career high in his first collegiate game, netting 13 points in 18 minutes (adding three rebounds and three assists) against Alcorn State Nov. 9.

Koulibaly did battle injuries, but was shown in a Twitter video this month as a healthy player in his workouts.

Jefferson Koulibaly becomes latest transfer to head to SMU

The Canadian joins a transfer class for SMU that includes Eastern Michigan big man Mo Njie, Troy forward Efe Odigie, Alabama forward Keon Ambrose-Hylton, Louisville wing Samuell Williamson, Marist guard Ricardo Wright and Iowa State big man Xavier Foster. As of now, Rob Lanier’s coaching staff has filled all the scholarships on the roster.

Returning players for the Mustangs include guards Zhuric PhelpsJalen SmithZach Nutall and Darius McBride along with forwards Stefan Todorovic and Frank Agunanne.
