Former South Carolina assistant coach leaving for new opportunity

Former College World Series hero and assistant coach Scott Wingo has been hired by Manhattan, according to D1 Baseball’s Kendall Rogers. Wingo will be the third assistant and hitting coach for the Jaspers.

Wingo was hired to be the Director of Player Development at South Carolina back in 2022. He also served as an assistant coach at Jacksonville and Notre Dame from 2018-21. He originally joined the Gamecocks’ coaching ranks back in 2015 as a graduate assistant.

Before his coaching days, Wingo played under then-head coach Ray Tanner at South Carolina from 2008-11. During that time, he hit .338 with four homers and 31 RBI in 314 career at-bats.

Wingo was a crucial player in the Gamecocks’ run to win back-to-back College World Series titles in 2010 and 2011. He was the College World Series Most Outstanding Player in 2011.
