On the latest episode of Completely Cocky with South Carolina wide receiver Josh Vann and defensive back Darius Rush, Vann shared his thoughts on Marcus Satterfield’s time as offensive coordinator at USC.

“It’s honestly been a good two years with him,” said Vann. “For me, (he and this coaching staff) gave me an opportunity to finally show what I’m capable of that pretty much everybody knew what I could do coming out of high school. So to finally get that opportunity with this coaching staff with coach Satt (and) coach (Justin) Stepp, it’s been an honor.”

Prior to Shane Beamer hiring Satterfield, Vann had 48 catches for 377 yards and two touchdowns in 32 games played. In 25 games in Satterfield’s offense, Vann complied 61 receptions for 975 yards and eight touchdowns. The bulk of his receptions and receiving yards came in 2021, which led many, including Vann, expecting to see even bigger numbers in his production in 2022.

“Obviously this year, with me coming back and predicting that I was gonna be inclining from my season last year, it didn’t go that way… It’s been a pretty frustrating year for me. But at the same time just being able to go out there and play football and still get the opportunities — (Satterfield and I) banged heads sometimes from the beginning of the season after the Arkansas game. Everybody was on me about my comment that I made, not to bring that back up. But there was no bad blood between me and coach Satt with him being the offensive coordinator. So for him to take (that comment I made) and not to put that back on me that just tells you a lot about him… I wish him nothing but the best up there in Nebraska.”

Vann went on to add some advice he has for Satterfield as he begins his next chapter with the Cornhuskers.

“The only thing I can tell him is just go out there and call damn plays.”

Watching the YouTube version of the podcast there seems to have been a cut in the interview. Either Vann had more to say that was later removed before it was published or there was a technical glitch. Vann then continued with this advice for Satterfield.

“When he just say like, ‘man, we’re gonna call these plays,’ it’s truly like, everybody like, ‘oh, what was this’ or ‘where was this offense at?’ So that’s the only thing I hope for him, just go out there and call plays like he knows how to do. So, I just wish him nothing but the best.”
