Episode 3 of our new podcast series with ⁦Marcus Lattimore, Nick Klos & myself on BLEAV is live.

One of the many topics Lattimore opened up about was whether or not he’d have any interest in returning to coach at South Carolina, if the opportunity presented itself.

It feels like every time a coaching position opens up for the Gamecocks, regardless of the sport, a former player’s name gets tossed around by fans. If a position were to ever open up for football, don’t hold your breath that Lattimore would accept it.

“I can’t. I can’t go back to Division I football,” Lattimore admitted on this week’s BLEAV in South Carolina podcast. “It’s too much. It’s not of my personality; that’s just me knowing myself. I love Carolina football. I’ll be a fan of Carolina football. I want to sit in the stands for one of these games this year.”

After stepping down from his position at the university as Director of Player Development in 2020, Lattimore was hired for the same role at Division III Lewis and Clark College in Oregon soon after. In addition, this past season he also served as the team’s running backs coach. On Episode 1, Lattimore shared how he enjoys the pureness that comes with coaching on a lower level, compared to coaching in the SEC.

“Coming back to Carolina to coach Division I? Let me say this, I’ll never say never but I promise you it won’t be anytime soon… I’m enjoying where I am now. It’s a lot slower pace. I’m kinda segwaying out of coaching. I’ll just be the Director of Player Development at Lewis and Clark. I coached the running backs last year and had a great time doing it but coaching is an art that I respect but I’m leaning more towards counseling face-to-face, mentoring, wellness, staying in that area. It’ll be in athletics but just not as a coach.”
