The first ever collegiate athlete to ink with Curry Brand is South Carolina women’s basketball freshman MiLaysia Fulwiley.

“When it comes to the ability to change the game for good, nobody can speak to that more than MiLaysia,” said Stephen Curry, President of Curry Brand, in a statement announcing the partnership on Friday. “She’s changing the women’s game on the fly with how she plays and moves on the court.

As part of the multi-year agreement, Fulwiley will wear Curry Brand footwear for the remainder of her collegiate career with the Gamecocks. She will also be a brand ambassador featured in campaigns and other marketing materials.

For the South Carolina women’s basketball program and for Fulwiley individually, it is a high honor to be selected as a brand partner alongside a huge NBA star.

“It feels incredible to be picked to represent Curry Brand,” Fulwiley said in the statement. “Knowing that I can be a role model for other young girls to come out here and do exactly what I did is amazing.”

Given Fulwiley’s skill set, existing ties to Curry, and South Carolina’s apparel affiliation, the partnership seems to be a great fit.

“She has a unique style and flow to her game that I don’t think many people have seen in a long time,” Curry said in a statement. “She was a part of Curry Camp, is a Team Curry alumni, and is currently playing at an Under Armour school. So, there are just so many great tie-ins to the Under Armour family, and partnering with her and Curry Brand is such a special opportunity. I’m humbled that she is now a part of the family.”

During her time as a high school standout at Keenan High in Columbia, Fulwiley played AAU basketball for Team Curry, an AAU team based out of Charlotte that is sponsored by Stephen Curry and his brand.

In year one in Columbia, Fulwiley has averaged over 11 points per game and has created numerous highlight reel plays.

This month, she became the first freshman in South Carolina school history to win the MVP of the SEC Tournament.

Head coach Dawn Staley also weighed in on the historic agreement:

MiLaysia is a generational player, an artist who is expanding her understanding of how to marry all aspects of her game every day,” Staley said. “We are learning things from each other about how to maximize her game, and it has been incredible to work with her on that process.”
