Lamont Paris made an appearance in the Upstate on Thursday for the Greenville “Welcome Home Tour” stop.

While in town, Paris made time to speak with the media before the event began.

Following is a summary of the most important points from the conversation:

— Paris is happy with the offseason that the Gamecocks had and said he leaned heavily on experience and skill this offseason. He feels like the team two years ago had a lot of experience and skill. There were a lot of close games that season that South Carolina won, whereas a lot of close games this season went the other direction.

— Asked about Cam Scott, Paris said that it’s common for expectations for 18 year olds to be too much, especially playing in “possibly the best league in the history of college basketball.” Paris said that Scott is talented and emphasized multiple times that Scott is a “great” teammate.

— In 2025 and beyond, you have to have a one-year plan for each player, instead of projecting out and having a three or four year plan for each guy and just take it year by year. Paris said he’s not being critical of how the world is now, but it’s the way it is and you have to adjust.

— As for point guard, Paris noted that in South Carolina’s system, it’s often not the person who brought the ball up who ends up being the decision maker on offense.

Meechie Johnson is set to due the bulk of the ball handling, but Eli Ellis and Mike Sharavjamts can also bring the ball up and handle it.
