South Carolina senior returning from injury to help Gamecocks attempt to salvage Texas A&M series

With Saturday’s embarrassing 17-0 defeat at the hands of the Texas A&M Aggies, South Carolina baseball lost another SEC series. The defeat moved the Gamecocks to 20-16 overall and 2-12 in SEC conference play. There will be one last chance on Saturday to salvage something of the disappointing trip to College Station.
As it turns out, USC will get a boost on Saturday as they look to avoid the sweep.

During his postgame media availability, South Carolina head coach Paul Mainieri spoke with GamecockCentral’s Jack Veltri. Mainieri said that senior right-hander Dylan Eskew will return from injury to take the bump on Saturday. Working back from concussion protocol and an oblique injury, the veteran starter will pitch for the first time in several weeks since taking a batting practice home run to the head when the Gamecocks were in Fayetteville. Because of his time on the shelf, Eskew will be limited on Saturday. However, Mainieri did not reveal a specific pitch count or inning limit for his first game back.
Prior to his injuries, Eskew was having a solid start to the 2024-2025 season. In five starts, Eskew owned an impressive 1.77 ERA. As has been his style as a Gamecock pitcher, though, Eskew allowed a lot of base runners (16 walks, eight HBPs, and eight hits in 20.1 innings). In most instances, he got out of trouble in Houdini-like fashion. In three starts against smaller programs and two more against the Oklahoma Sooners and rival Clemson Tigers, Eskew did not give up more than one earned run in any of his five appearances this season.

If Eskew can throw like that on Saturday–even in limited innings–he will give the Gamecocks a fighting chance to win just their third SEC contest and sixth game overall in the last 30 days.
South Carolina and Texas A&M will take the field Saturday at 3:00 p.m. No traditional television network is broadcasting the matchup, but SEC Network+ will make the game available via streaming.
