4-star South Carolina football recruiting target sets decision date

South Carolina football recruiting target Gordon Sellars is one of the top receivers on the Gamecocks’ board. The consensus 4-star prospect from Providence Day School in Charlotte has five school in mind. However, on Tuesday, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett that he will make his final college choice on April 18th.
If that date sounds familiar to South Carolina fans, it’s because the Gamecocks will play the annual Garnet and Black Spring Game on that day. Perhaps not coincidentally, Sellars recently scheduled an unofficial visit to Columbia for that weekend. If the talented pass-catcher makes it in for that visit, it likely means good news for USC. Sellars has a Gamecock official visit scheduled for June 6th, too.
On3’s industry ranking–a weighted composite of the rankings from On3, 247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals–considers Sellars to be the nation’s No. 211 overall prospect. He’s also No. 34 among wide receivers and No. 13 in a loaded class in North Carolina.

This winter, Sellars cut his list of favorite schools to five, but he told Fawcett there’s now a final six. Presumedly, his commitment will come from that list. Joining South Carolina among his favorites are the Georgia Bulldogs, North Carolina A&T Aggies, Clemson Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Michigan Wolverines. Ohio State and North Carolina A&T are newer additions to Sellars’ list. Ohio State just offered him a scholarship this week after an unofficial visit to Columbus.

As of now, Sellars has official visits scheduled to South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia, and Michigan. He took an unofficial to Clemson recently and will be in Ann Arbor to check out the Wolverines a week before his decision date.
Sellars is a 7-on-7 teammate of Gamecocks commitment J’Zavien Currence and fellow Carolina target Samari Matthews.
