ESPN’s Mel Kiper has former South Carolina football standout Xavier Legette pegged as a first-round selection to the Kansas City Chiefs in his latest two-round mock draft.

The Mullins (South Carolina) native had a breakout season in 2023 for the Gamecocks, catching 71 passes for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns in total.

“You think about a guy like Xavier Legette, he was a kick returner,” Kiper has previously said of the Legette. “This year he was a dynamic wide receiver presence. Drawing comps maybe to AJ Brown, maybe a guy like that. But a big receiver at 6-1, 222. Ran 4.39 at the Combine. 40.5 vertical. That cemented, I think, Xavier Legette in that late first-round discussion.”

A member of the 2019 recruiting class, Legette rated by the On3 Industry Ranking -a weighted average of all four major recruiting services – as a three-star prospect and the number 109 receiver prospect in the country.

The Chiefs won the Super Bowl this past season, led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Kansas City selects at pick number 32 this year, the final pick of the first round.

After his big final year at South Carolina, Legette was named to the Reese’s Senior Bowl and was honored with a second-team All-SEC selection.

“No offensive prospect has helped himself more this fall than South Carolina’s Xavier Legette,” said Jim Nagy, the director of the Reese’s Senior Bowl, in November. “Coming into the season, we saw him as a really good special teams player and kick returner, but he’s emerged as a true playmaker in the South Carolina offense. He’s 6-foot-1, 220-pounds, but he plays even bigger than that as we’ve seen in contested situations all season for the Gamecocks.”

The 2024 NFL Draft is located in Detroit; day one kicks off on Thursday, April 25 and the event runs through April 27.
