Defensive end Gilber Edmond is on campus at the University of South Carolina and is officially returning to the Gamecocks football program, sources tell GamecockCentral.com.

After transferring away from Columbia following the 2022 season, Edmond landed at Florida State, where he played in all 14 games this season. For the 2023 campaign, he posted 23 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and a sack.

The Fort Pierce (Westwood) product originally signed with the Gamecocks as a member of the 2020 high school class, flipping his commitment on signing day from South Florida in favor of Carolina.

Under assistant coach Sterling Lucas, Edmond enjoyed a breakout season in 2022. As a redshirt sophomore, he tallied 39 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and 9 quarterback hurries. Edmond played in all 12 regular season games, starting 10 of them.

Now, Edmond will reunite with his former Gamecocks position coach and add more depth to a South Carolina defensive front that has been in need of more pass-rush juice.

South Carolina landed a pair of defensive end/EDGE prospects for the 2024 class. Washington (D.C.) Friendship Academy five-star Dylan Stewart and Georgia Tech transfer Kyle Kennard will both go through spring practice with the team.

Shane Beamer’s program also returns seniors Elijah Davis and Terrell Dawkins, juniors Bryan Thomas Jr. and JT Geer, and sophomore Desmond Umeozulu at the EDGE position.
