South Carolina has now completed nine spring football practices which means the Gamecocks are starting to close in on April 20’s Garnet and Black spring game.

As with any stretch of practices, nagging injuries can start to add up and head coach Shane Beamer was asked Tuesday if there were any players who he already believes will miss the spring game two Saturdays from now.

“I don’t want to say a handful but it will be a handful,” Beamer said. “We’ve got some things, maybe some guys that didn’t practice today, just with some injuries, JT Geer didn’t practice today, Nick Emmanwori didn’t practice today, Debron Gatling didn’t practice today, Brady Hunt didn’t practice today. Tonka (Hemingway) practiced but was limited, so we’ve got some things like that where some guys are battling through.”

Beamer added that he’ll know more later on how long those guys will miss.

“We’ll meet as a staff at 4:00 and I’ll have a better idea then but again none of those are significant and long-term at all,” he said. “JT’s may be a little bit longer term than those others but it’s nothing serious, he may be back at practice on Thursday. He was seeing a doctor today about an injury that happened on Saturday but it won’t be anything super long-term. … Hopefully we’ll have as full a group as possible.”

Beamer previously indicated that running backs Rocket Sanders, Juju McDowell and Bradley Dunn, linebacker Mo Kaba, and redshirt freshman wide receiver C.J. Adams are out for the rest of the spring.

Sanders, the former All-SEC transfer from Arkansas, is still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.

McDowell suffered a collarbone injury a couple of weeks ago while diving for a pass in practice, while Dunn is dealing with an ankle injury.

Kaba is still recovering from knee surgery after suffering a torn ACL in the season opener last year.

Adams suffered what Beamer called “a little bit of a spring break injury” to his finger.

The Gamecocks will practice again on Thursday before scrimmaging on Saturday.
