Two of the three South Carolina football players who will likely miss the entirety of the spring are players who were already dealing with recovery from prior injuries with only one new addition to the injury report head coach Shane Beamer provided on Tuesday following the first spring practice of the year.

Running back Rocket Sanders, linebacker Mo Kaba and redshirt freshman wide receiver C.J. Adams will likely miss all 15 practices, according to Beamer.

“(Adams) had a little bit of a spring break injury, which is unfortunate,” Beamer said. “So CJ will be out for the entire spring. It’s a finger, nothing crazy long-term, but it’ll keep him out of the spring. Mo Kaba was not able to do anything today. He would most likely will not do anything. He’s going to be out for the entire spring but fully expecting to be ready for the season.

“And then Rocket did not do anything today, very unlikely that he’ll be able to do anything this spring. He’s making progress. He’s getting better, but coming off that shoulder, he’s not where he needs to be right now. When I say not doing anything, he’s doing some of the rehab stuff at practice, but as far as throwing him in there into live action, he will likely not do any of that this spring.”

Sanders, the former All-SEC transfer from Arkansas, is still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery while Kaba is still recovering from knee surgery after suffering a torn ACL in the season opener last year.

According to Beamer, most of the rest of the team was able to at least do some type of work at practice, with a couple of exceptions.

“Chase Sweigert, offensive lineman, he didn’t do anything today. And Jaxon Hughes, the offensive tackle, Jackson didn’t do anything today, but we’re hopeful in the next two weeks that Jackson and Chase will be back and able to get going again,” Beamer said.

For the most part, the fourth-year head coach feels good about where Carolina stands on the injury front.

“And then everyone else was able to do a little something today, (some) may have been limited. They may not been able to do all the team periods against the defense, but they at least did the bulk of the practice, everyone else on the team. So we’re in pretty decent shape other than those three long-term guys.”
