South Carolina picks up another commitment on eve of transfer portal opening

On the eve of the transfer portal officially opening, South Carolina has added another commitment, this time from two-way player Cullen Horowicz.
“Blessed to announce my commitment to the University of South Carolina. Thank you to everyone who has helped and supported me. Looking forward to this next chapter. #spursup,” Horowicz announced in an X (formerly known as Twitter) post.
Horowicz spent the last two seasons at Samford, hitting .231 with six homers and 20 RBI in 43 games. He didn’t see much action this year, only playing in 16 games with two starts and hitting .067 with one homer and two RBI.
Pitching out of relief this season, the right-hander went 0-1 with an 8.71 ERA over 10.1 innings. He racked up 20 strikeouts with nine walks and made 12 appearances. He’s spent most of his time on the mound or at first base, but he’s also played third base and the outfield.

This will be Horowicz’s third stop of his college career. He originally played at Army in 2022, hitting .217 with one homer and two RBI in 17 games.
At Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia, Horowicz was named the West Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year in 2021. He hit .437 and had a 1.704 OPS in 30 games that season. He holds his school’s career home run record with 25 longballs.
This will be a very active offseason for South Carolina as it looks to bounce back from a disappointing 28-29 record this season. The Gamecocks have also added Louisiana-Monroe reliever Josh Gregoire and Purdue first baseman Logan Sutter out of the portal.
