South Carolina TE Josh Simon earns NFL opportunity

South Carolina tight end Josh Simon has agreed to an undrafted free agent deal with the Atlanta Falcons, according to GamecockCentral.com’s Mike Uva. He joins a long line of USC tight ends to get a chance at the highest level of football.

Simon spent two seasons with the Gamecocks and six years overall in college football. He began his career at Western Kentucky and played with the Hilltoppers from 2019-22. He made 86 catches for 1,146 yards with 15 touchdowns during that span.
Simon transferred to South Carolina in 2023 and then became a reliable target for quarterbacks Spencer Rattler and LaNorris Sellers over two seasons. After catching 28 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns, he followed that up with a career-best season in 2024, leading the team in receiving. He also set a new program record for single-season touchdown receptions by a tight end, snagging seven catches for scores in his final year in garnet and black.

He finished with 40 catches, totaling 519 yards and seven touchdowns in 12 games. This helped him earn Fourth-Team All-SEC honors from Phil Steele. He became the only tight end in school history to lead the team in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns in a season.
During his college career, Simon finished with 154 catches for 1,921 yards and 24 touchdowns in 64 games, 40 at Western Kentucky and 24 at South Carolina.
