South Carolina left-handed pitcher Jake McCoy will return for his junior season, he confirmed to GamecockCentral.

McCoy was a mainstay in the Gamecocks’ weekend rotation this year, making the most starts of any pitcher on staff with 14. He began the year as the team’s Sunday starter but saw action in the Friday and Saturday slots as the season progressed.

The Fort Mill, S.C. native went 4-5 with a 6.90 ERA over 60 innings. He struck out a team-leading 77 batters but also walked 40 batters, the most of any Gamecock pitcher.

McCoy is now the fourth player to make plans to return for next season. Senior catcher Talmadge LeCroy, freshman third baseman KJ Scobey and freshman first baseman Beau Hollins are also returning.

The Gamecocks have lost 12 players to the transfer portal, which officially opened to all players on Monday, June 2. The portal will remain open until July 1.
