SEC women’s basketball media day is Tuesday. South Carolina is the nightcap, going last. In addition to Dawn Staley, players Aliyah Boston and Zia Cooke are scheduled to attend. Staley’s press conference is scheduled for 6:40 pm ET. The press conference with Boston and Cooke is scheduled for 6:55 pm ET. Both, along with the entire day, will be available on SEC Network+.

The SEC preseason awards will be announced Tuesday. Aliyah Boston should be picked to repeat as the player of the year and South Carolina should be picked to repeat as SEC champions. We’ll post the awards along with my ballot once they are announced.

At noon the preseason AP Top 25 will be released. Again, South Carolina is expected to earn the top spot. The only question is how many votes the Gamecocks will receive.

Looking ahead, 2023 guard Tessa Johnson will announce her commitment Wednesday morning at 9:00 am ET. Johnson visited South Carolina in September. Her three finalists are home-state Minnesota, Baylor, and South Carolina.

The 2023 WNBA Draft lottery will be held Friday, November 11 at 5:30, preceding the South Carolina-Maryland. Both events will be televised on ESPN2. The timing probably isn’t a coincidence. Boston is the presumptive top pick and the lottery will determine who drafts her. The WNBA uses two-year cumulative records to determine lottery odds. Indiana has the best odds, with Atlanta, Washington, and Minnesota also in the lottery.
