The University of South Carolina has hired Tim Hall to serve as the new head coach of the track and field program for the Gamecocks.

Hall, who will take over for the retiring Curtis Frye, heads to Columbia from the University of Kentucky, where he put together a standout resume as the Associate Head Coach for sprints and hurdles.

South Carolina’s board of trustees approved Hall’s contract Friday morning, signing off on a five-year deal.

Hall’s contract will run through 2028 and he’ll make $275,000 annually.

The list of career accomplishments for Hall as an assistant is lengthy.

“Over the course of his career, Hall has coached an Olympic Gold Medalist, five Olympians, a World Champion and silver medalist, a world record holder, two American record holders, four collegiate record-holders, 11 NCAA Champions, 14 SEC Champions and over 125 All-Americans,” says his bio from UKAthletics.com.

For the last five years consecutively, Hall has been named the Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year by the USTFCCA.

One of Hall’s pupils, Abby Steiner, set the American record for the indoor 200 meters. Steiner also set a collegiate record in the 300 meters while winning two NCAA and three SEC titles.

A 1994 graduate of South Carolina State University, Hall was a three-time captain for the Bulldogs himself.

His coaching career began at Charlotte, where he served from 1996 until 2008. He then spent time at Clemson, Kentucky and Tennessee prior to returning to Lexington in 2018.

Hall takes over for Frye, who was the Gamecocks’ head track and field coach for almost 30 seasons.

Frye coached 14 SEC athletes of the year and five national athletes of the year. Multiple athletes he coached went on to participate in international competitions like the Olympics.

As of 2022, Fryce coached 28 Olympians who have garnered 14 medals at the Olympic games. He also spent 2015 coaching Team USA in Russia as part of the World University Games and the IAAF World Championships.

Frye’s tenure ended earlier this month with the legendary coach retiring after 27 years at the helm of the program.
