What Shane Beamer had to say after Day 1 of Spring Practice

South Carolina head football coach Shane Beamer spoke with the media following day one of spring practice.

Here is everything that Beamer had to say about his team on Tuesday.

– Beamer begins by congratulating the progress of Dawn Staley, Lamont Paris, and the Swimming and Diving teams this season.

– It was great getting back out on the field. Adds he was pleased with the progress the guys have made with Luke Day and the strength staff.

– They don’t have a depth chart right now. “We want to give everyone the opportunity to work with different groups… Everyone is going to get the opportunity to compete and earn a role here…”

– He really likes his freshman. “It was their first college football practice ever and they didn’t look lost.”

– Harbor update

Nyck is in track season and football-wise, track is the priority but he will be with football when he’s not with track or in class. Has been with football a lot. Also has potential to run in the summer olympics.

– South Carolina really like their freshman linebackers in Wendall Gregory and Fred Jr Johnson. Says their length is what sets them apart and has the coaching staff excited.

– Other sports doing well is a big selling point in recruiting. Adds the Men’s Basketball win against Kentucky had recruits talking to him about the win and Coach Staley has certainly helped recruit.

– Luke Doty likes the Athlete title on the depth chart. Says he expects him to have an active role in Special Teams, looked good at receiver and has improved at QB.

– The signing class of 2024 is really close with each other. Says that it was cool for Mazeo Bennett and Blake Franks being high school teammates going through their first practice together.

On the “Great Wall of Carolina”: Beamer says that those guys were recruited because of their size and they are all of it.

Injury Report

– Mo Kaba was not able to do anything in practice today, doubtful for the spring, should be good to go for season.
Rocket Sanders did nothing in practice today, unlikely for the spring, and expected to go for the season.
