Bronny James didn’t hold a press conference to announce his decision. However, the son of LeBron made his decision to leave the USC basketball program one day after the Trojans announced its new head coach Eric Musselman.

USC guard, and son of NBA superstar LeBron JamesBronny James has officially declared for the 2024 NBA Draft. On3’s Joe Tipton reported the news. James shared that he plans to maintain his college eligibility and enter the transfer portal as well.

When Bronny James committed to the Trojans he was joining what many considered to be USC’s best roster, which included the No. 1 player in the country out of high school Isaiah Collier. Now, after one season when the Trojans underachieved, Bronny is looking to follow in his father’s footsteps.

“I’ve had a year with some ups and downs but all added to growth for me as a man, student, and athlete,” James wrote in his Instagram post. “I’ve made the decision to enter the NBA Draft while maintaining my college eligibility, and will also be entering the NCAA transfer portal.–Thank you to USC for an amazing freshman year, and as always thankful for my family, friends, doctors, athletic trainers and fans for their support.”

That’s just the second public statement from Bronny since he became a Trojan. The other time was a brief statement given following his debut at Galen Center and no questions were allowed.

James missed the first eight games of the season after suffering from a sudden cardiac arrest in early July during the Trojans’ offseason workouts. Playing on a minutes restriction to start off his college career in his debut game against Long Beach State where he scored four points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a chase-down block reminiscent of his father in his 16 minutes played.

During his freshman campaign, James averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in his 19.4 minutes per game.

Bronny’s time at USC was always considered borrowed as his father has been outspoken about playing with his son in the NBA before he retires.–LeBron has been in the NBA (21 years) longer than Bronny has been alive.

Besides the excitement that Galen Center experienced, all because a couple of extra thousand fans bought tickets to watch LeBron arrive during the National Anthem, Bronny’s contributions to the program are minimal.

What comes next for Bronny?

Like father like son, we await the decision.
